About

I never thought I would be making jewelry. I was never great at creating something without a template or picture to work from. I do better when I have an idea to start from and build on it. Jewelry is the first thing where I have been able to learn a technique and then apply my own design from scratch. It is very liberating.

I started with simple beading. In my ongoing “research” on beads, I stumbled across lampwork beads. That was when I started learning that there is an artist community that creates original art beads from glass. Creates? Their own glass beads? I was intrigued. No. I was obsessed. That obsession started in May of 2007.

As I struggled with lampwork beads, I wanted to progress beyond simple beading and started researching metals. I settled on wire-wrapping as a good intro to metal. This opened an interesting world of possibilities with minimal tool investment.

Recently – April 2008 - I have been asked to create some custom pieces for friends with simple glass beads and base wire work. The result has been well received so far. Not wanting to be limited by the size of wire and jump rings I buy, I’ve begun learning how to make my own jump rings. This is beginning a new obsession with chain maille weaves as another way to move up another level in my jewelry work.

CUSTOM DESIGNS

I created this blog to be interactive in the sense that rather than create purely from my imagination (which I have been doing for the last year and will continue to do), I would create based on feedback and input from the jewelry-wearing community about what they would like to wear for everyday jewelry. I’m beginning to dabble in custom work and this blog is a venture to see how it can be done…more updates later!
